What data do we collect?

Information in brief

Taloustutkimus collects data from survey participants in three ways:

  1. Data provided by respondents themselves, such as survey answers and respondent background information.
  2. Data derived from respondents' background information and survey responses, such as various segmentation data
  3. Data collected or purchased from external sources that can be linked to survey participants. Such data include, for example, statistics published by Statistics Finland and data purchased from business registers.

For more information on the processing of survey participants' data, see the section on survey participants.

Data such as contact names and details and feedback from research projects are collected from clients for customer relationship management and marketing purposes. The clients of Taloustutkimus are mainly companies, organisations and public sector organisations.
For more information on the processing of client data, please see the section on Clients.

The data collected on employees are mainly those required by law, such as information on working hours, salaries and the processing of personal files. For more information on the processing of employee data, please see the section on employees.

In most surveys and when registering for the Taloustutkimus internet panel, a varying amount of background information is required. The following personal and background information is collected at the time of registration:

  • First name
  • Last name*
  • E-mail*
  • Username*

In the case of group, thematic and in-depth interviews, audio or video recordings of the interviews may be made. The interviewees will be informed in advance about the audio or video recording.

In connection with web-based surveys, the interests of respondents may be determined on the basis of cookies collected by the Internet browser, in practice this means on the basis of the browsing history. The browsing history is used to build an AI-based interest profile to supplement the survey results. Where cookie data is used, the survey participant's consent will be sought in relation to the survey in question. Information about an individual survey participant's interest profile is not shared outside of Taloustutkimus and the results are reported in a form that does not allow the individual survey participant to be identified.

Prizes may be drawn from among respondents and the names of the winners will be published on the Taloustutkimus website. Survey participants will be asked if they wish to take part in the draw, but they cannot refuse to have their names published. The winners will be published in the "Survey participants" section. The information published will include the survey participant's first name and last name, place of residence and the draw in which they won.

2. Data derived from respondent background information and survey responses, such as various segmentation data.

3. Data collected or purchased from external sources that can be linked to survey participants.

Such data include, for example, statistics published by Statistics Finland and data purchased from business registers. Data will only be obtained from reliable sources and Taloustutkimus will ensure that the data provider has the right to disclose the data.

How do we use your data?

The information provided by survey participants is primarily used to report and analyse the results of the survey. The results of the survey will be reported to the client organisation in a format that does not allow individual respondents to be identified. The information provided by survey participants may be used to create new derived data which may be used for analysis of the survey results and enrichment of data in Taloustutkimus' own registers and those of our clients and partners.

The personal data provided by survey participants will never be used for direct marketing purposes.

The data collected from clients is used for customer relationship management and marketing and for the development of Taloustutkimus' business.

The data collected on employees is used to maintain and develop the activities of Taloustutkimus, to fulfil legal obligations and, if necessary, for administrative measures.

The information provided by survey participants is primarily used to report and analyse the results of the survey. The results of the survey will be reported to the client organisation in a format that does not allow individual respondents to be identified. The client has the right to receive the response data in the form of an Excel spreadsheet, for example. However, even in this case, the identity of the individual respondent cannot be identified. Clients use the survey results in the development of their own operations, such as customer service, product and service development, market potential assessment and communication planning.

Taloustutkimus is committed to protecting the anonymity of respondents. Identifiable personal data such as name, address, telephone number and e-mail address may be disclosed to clients and partners if the recipient has the right to process such data and it is necessary for the use of the survey results. In accordance with ESOMAR's principles, we will always ask survey participants for their permission for the disclosure of personal data.

The personal data provided by survey participants will never be used for marketing purposes.

The information provided by survey participants may be used to create new derived data which may be used for analysis of the survey results and enrichment of data in Taloustutkimus' own registers and those of our clients and partners. Most of the derived data is generated using multivariate statistical methods, which are always chosen on a case-by-case basis. More information about multivariate methods can be found on Wikipedia's Multivariate statistics page.

The enrichment of data in client and partner registers is usually done using statistical prediction models. This means that the individual survey participant cannot be identified from the data used for enrichment. Taloustutkimus clients and partners use data enrichment to develop their business and manage their customer relationships, such as planning segment-specific marketing activities and defining target groups for marketing. For more information on statistical prediction, see the Wikipedia page on predictive analytics.

The data collected from clients is used for customer relationship management and marketing and for the development of Taloustutkimus' business.

Taloustutkimus' information systems are designed to be fault tolerant. The information system is also backed up regularly so that data can be recovered in the event of a failure. Our information systems are also protected against external attacks.

ACCESS CONTROL

Access to Taloustutkimus premises is controlled by electronic access control. For employees, this mainly means the use of electronic keys that allow access to the premises based on the access rights defined for each key.
